The reigning Super Bowl champions nabbed Colorado wide receiver Paul Richardson at No. 45 overall, a pick they fell to after shipping the 40th pick to the Lions.
In the same deal, Seattle also sent its fifth-round pick (No. 146) to Detroit in exchange for Lions' fourth-round (No. 111) and seventh-round (No. 227) selections.
It's the third-highest pick Seattle has ever used on a wideout, and this particular receiver can flat-out fly. Richardson gives the Seahawks a speed demon who measures at 6 feet, 172 pounds and runs an tantalizing 4.39 40-yard dash.
"He's a lightweight guy so he can ," one scout told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He's not going to play the power game. He's not going to pull through tackles. If a (cornerback) gets his hands on him they're going to reroute him pretty easy. But if you want a guy who can separate on the outside from man cover that's what he can do. He can threaten deep. Great feet. Very quick."
Richardson also boasts NFL bloodlines after his father Paul played briefly with the Raiders, Packers and Eagles. Scouts who spoke with McGinn ranked Richardson as this year's 14th-best wideout, but we know the Seahawks think differently and often scout with a unique flair. In case you haven't noticed, that's worked out just fine for Seattle so far.
