Paxton Lynch will participate in passing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine. He's the second top quarterback prospect this week to commit to throwing at the annual event where quarterbacks don't always throw.
The former Memphis star told San Francisco's 95.7 The Game of his intentions from Super Bowl 50 on Friday.
"That's the only time you're going to be around all those GMs and coaches," Lynch said. "They get to watch you throw head to head against the guys you're being compared to, so that's a good time to compete, in my opinion."
Lynch's decision follows that of former Cal quarterback Jared Goff, who announced earlier this week that he also will throw at the combine. Like Lynch, Goff is also among the top quarterback prospects available in this year's draft.
The combine will be held Feb. 23-29 in Indianapolis.
Quarterbacks will go through personal interviews with NFL clubs on Feb. 25, and go through workouts on Feb. 27. The combine will be broadcast on NFL Network.
Some quarterbacks prefer to wait until their on-campus pro-day workouts to throw passes for NFL coaches and scouts, because they prefer the familiar surroundings and receivers that the pro-day event provides.
It's unclear whether North Dakota State's Carson Wentz will throw at the combine as well. Wentz impressed scouts last week at the Reese's Senior Bowl. Other top quarterbacks in the draft include Michigan State's Connor Cook, Ohio State's Cardale Jones and Penn State's Christian Hackenberg.
