It's been obvious since last spring's holdout threats that wide receiver Percy Harvin's arranged marriage with the Minnesota Vikings isn't a happy one.
The offseason already has brought reports that Harvin will be shopped, that the team wants to keep the disgruntled receiver, and finally that general manager Rick Spielman has no intention of making a trade.
Add another log to the bonfire. Citing "some good sources around the NFL," the Star Tribune's Sid Hartman reported Saturday that Harvin has informed the Vikings that he "doesn't want to play for them and wants to be traded."
Shocking, I know. Hartman is a columnist with a hit-and-miss history of breaking news, but it's certainly credible that Harvin has told the Vikings he would rather be traded than going through the dog-and-pony show of a prolonged holdout starting in the offseason and carrying through training camp.
If the report is true, it's the second time in less than a year that Harvin has requested a trade.
Seeking a lucrative contract extension nearCalvin Johnson territory, Harvin won't be in attendance when the Vikings begin workouts April 22. A Vikings source told Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole there's fear in the front office that the "strong-willed" Harvin will hold out long into the 2013 season if his demands aren't met.
At this point, a Vikings-Harvin divorce appears to be inevitable.
