Players await word about re-certification vote process

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Panthers players said Tuesday they still are awaiting word on the process of how they will vote to re-certify as a players union, the key element that would lead to the final touches to ratify the new collective bargaining agreement.

Free-agent linebacker Thomas Davis said he thinks the details will become clearer Wednesday, when most of the league's players arrive at team facilities to take physicals.

Free-agent quarterback Matt Moore said he has not received specific details, but he has heard that free agents might be able to e-mail or fax their votes. He added that with the majority of the players' constituency under contract and a simple majority of votes needed to ratify the re-certification, he's unsure if free agents will be vital to the voting process.
