P.J. Fleck does things interestingly. For example, at Minnesota's pro day on Monday, the head coach asked every scout in attendance what school they had graduated from. He wrote every one down on a piece of paper to make sure none were ever credentialed for a future Gophers game that immediately preceded a contest involving their alma mater.
Now that's next-level thinking.
» QB Mitch Leidner (6-3 3/8, 231) stood on his combine numbers but went through a brisk workout that saw him throw 69 passes. He started solid but tailed off near the end with some incompletions. This could be a player who switches positions in the NFL.
» CB Jalen Myrick (5-9 3/8, 203) stood on his combine numbers with the exception of the short shuttle (4.15 and 4.17 seconds), and the three-cone drill (7.02 seconds). Myrick is a good athlete who should get drafted.
» Safety Damarius Travis (6-0 5/8, 208) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.61 and 4.68 seconds, had a 33-inch vertical, a 4.14-second short shuttle, and a 6.96-second three-cone. He had what was described to me as an exceptional workout, showing toughness. Besides safety, he should be a gifted special teams player.
» OT Jonah Pirsig (6-7 7/8, 314) is built like a house. He ran the 40 in 5.38 and 5.38 seconds, had a 27-inch vertical, an 8-foot-6 broad jump, a 4.87-second short shuttle, a 7.78-second three-cone, and added 20 lifts on the bench press. He should be a priority free agent after the draft.
» LB Jack Lynn (6-2 1/2, 246) ran the 40 on 4.75 and 4.81 seconds, had a 30.5-inch vertical, a 9-5 broad jump, a 4.45-second short shuttle, a 7.34-second three-cone, and 21 bench lifts. Like Pirsig, he should be a priority free agent.
