Joe Nedney's 40-yard field goal sailed just inside the upright to give San Francisco its fourth win in five games. The strong finish led to the Niners announcing after the game that Mike Singletary would remain as head coach.

Game ball
49ers QB Shaun Hill overcame a couple of rough patches and played his best down the stretch. He deftly led the winning drive and was 12-of-16 for 163 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Key stat
The Redskins won the time-of-possession battle and won eight more plays than the 49ers, but they had an anemic 4.1 yards-per-play average, compared to San Francisco's 6.3 average.
