Quick Take: Chargers (4-3) at Vikings (2-5)

Last meeting
In 2003, the Chargers defeated the Vikings 42-28 behind RB LaDainian Tomlinson's 207 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Streaks
San Diego has won two of the last three meetings and leads the overall series 5-4.

Last week
After practicing in Arizona all week because of the wildfires that ravaged Southern California, the Chargers returned to Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday and cruised past the Texans, 35-10. Philip Rivers threw for three touchdowns in the victory. ... The Vikings fell to the Eagles 23-16 at home. Minnesota was down to third-string QB Brooks Bollinger when backup Kelly Holcomb, filling in for injured starter Tarvaris Jackson, left the game with a neck injury.

At stake
The Vikings look to stop a two-game skid and climb out of the basement of the NFC North. The Chargers find themselves on a three-game winning streak and are tied for first place in the AFC West after a shaky start to the season.

Key matchup:
Present vs. Future. Or is it Past vs. Present? Reigning league MVP Tomlinson won the rushing title last year, but this season it is Minnesota rookie RB Adrian Peterson that leads the NFL with 740 yards on the ground. Up next for Peterson is San Diego's seventh-ranked rush defense, led by LB Shawne Merriman. Tomlinson's challenge is getting past a Vikings defense that is ranked third in the league against the rush.

Did you know?
Tomlinson is tied with Jim Brown for fourth on the NFL's all-time rushing touchdowns list (106). He needs four more to tie Walter Payton for third place. ... When WR Troy Williamson has 75-plus receiving yards, the Vikings are 3-0.
