Quick Take: Redskins survive injuries, Bears

It was over when...
The Bears failed to score a red-zone touchdown to tie the game at 17 in the fourth quarter. Chicago had a first-and-goal from the Redskins 1-yard line, but a 3-yard loss by RB Adrian Peterson and two Brian Griese incompletions forced the Bears to settle for a 22-yard Robbie Gould field goal. The Bears followed with an eight-play, 70-yard drive that ended with a 16-yard Todd Collins touchdown pass to RB Ladell Betts to give Washington a two-score lead with 2:41 remaining.

Game balls
Redskins CB Shawn Springs intercepted two Griese passes on consecutive Bears drives in the second quarter. The first of his two interceptions led to the game's first score, a 21-yard touchdown pass from Collins to TE Todd Yoder. On offense, Collins -- replacing the injured Jason Campbell and playing in the regular season for the first time since 2004 -- went 15-of-20 for 224 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Key stats
The Bears committed nine penalties for 49 yards, with six of those penalties coming on a single third-quarter drive. ... The Redskins won despite rushing for just 32 yards.

Noteworthy
In a rare and bizarre turn of events, both starting quarterbacks were knocked out of the game in the first half with left knee injuries. With 10:53 remaining in the first quarter, Redskins DT Cornelius Griffin made a low tackle on Rex Grossman, bending the Bears quarterback's left knee awkwardly. Grossman left the game after just six pass attempts and was replaced by Griese, who finished 27-of-45 for 295 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. Later, while scrambling in the second quarter, Campbell took a hit on his right elbow from Bears DB Brandon McGowan. He returned after missing just one snap, only to injure his left knee on a hit from DE Mark Anderson two plays later. Campbell was carted off the field and diagnosed with a dislocated left kneecap. ... Griese backed up Collins when the two played together at Michigan. ... The last time Collins threw two touchdown passes in a game was on Nov. 30, 1997, as the QB for the Buffalo Bills. ... Both teams combined to miss their first three field goal attempts. Gould had his 48-yard attempt partially blocked in the first quarter, while Redskins kicker Shaun Suisham missed his first two attempts from 47 and 37 yards, respectively.
