Heyward-Bey spent Sunday night in observation at Oakland's Eden Medical Center after absorbing a vicious hit from Steelers safety Ryan Mundy in the fourth quarter of the Raiders' 34-31 win. The fourth-year pro suffered a concussion and neck strain, but he is resting at home and expected to make a full recovery.
"The concussion is obviously the bigger issue than anything else right now," Raiders coach Dennis Allen told The Associated Press on Monday. "He's a guy that we're going to have to continue to evaluate and see where he's at. We were all pleased to see that it wasn't anything severe as far as neck injury or anything like that."
The organization can breathe a sigh of relief after what appeared to be a potentially serious injury. Until he returns, Heyward-Bey's absence leaves the Raiders thin at receiver, with Juron Criner, Rod Streater and Derek Hagan across from Denarius Moore.
