The Raiders are in the midst of settling in with a new coach, but they might finally have some positive news.
Derek Carrtold reporters Wednesday that he's confident his injured ankle/knee will be healthy enough to allow him to playWeek 6 versus the Chargers.
"We're taking it day at a time," said Carr, who wasn't sporting a knee brace or a limp, via CSN Bay Area. "But knowing myself, I'll be ready -- that's my answer, that's my goal. I've just got to continue to work hard to get ready."
The rookie QB has the bye to recover after exiting the team's blowout loss to the Dolphins on Sunday with a high ankle sprain and MCL sprain. The lopsided defeat was the nail in the coffin of the Dennis Allen era; the coach was fired the next day. Whenever Carr suits up next, Tony Sparano will be manning the sideline.
Though the Raiders are a disaster at 0-4, Carr's play has been one of the lone bright spots. He's shown an ability to scramble and a big arm during the team's first four games. Carr has also gotten the ball out quickly, taking just three sacks this season. He's a work in progress (he's turned the ball over four times), but Oakland needs him to play and develop if they are going to salvage a semblance of hope going forward.
If Carr can't go, either Matt McGloin or Matt Schaub will fill in. Schaub rejoined the team this week; the backup QB missed the past two games after his wife underwent emergency surgery related to her pregnancy.
