We perhaps now have some explanation for Matt Schaub's struggles this preseason.
Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen told reporters on Sunday that Schaub is dealing with a sore throwing elbow, according to the Bay Area News Group. The quarterback revealed the injury to the coaching staff after Friday's preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers. Rookie Derek Carr took first-team reps during Sunday's practice.
Allen said Schaub will be evaluated daily. Schaub's elbow has no major structural damage, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, via a source informed of the quarterback's injury, and the plan remains for him to start Week 1. Allen said Carr -- now recovered from a concussion and rib injury -- will play in the Raiders' preseason finale.
Opportunity is loudly knocking for Carr, who has outplayed Schaub all summer. You may remember Matt Flynn losing the inside track on a starting job last summer after coming down with a -- you guessed it -- sore throwing elbow.
