One year after having his season ended by a torn patellar tendon, St. Louis Rams wide receiver Mark Clayton's season is over early again, this time because of pain in both knees, according to a tweet from the team's website on Thursday.
"The biggest thing here is Mark Clayton has been struggling with both knees," coach Steve Spagnuolo told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch after Thursday's practice. "I could see that he was, so I talked with him. "He's really been struggling. The knee that he had surgery on has been giving him a hard time. The other knee is starting to; he's starting to feel it, too."
Spagnuolo said Clayton tried to practice Wednesday but that he endured a lot of pain. The newspaper said arthroscopic surgery was being considered for one or both knees.
Clayton, who was re-signed by the Rams on Sept. 1, played in only two games since coming off the physicaly unable to perform list and had only three catches for 26 yards.
Clayton, 29, caught 22 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns in the first four games last season before being injured in Week 5. He had been quarterback Sam Bradford's top target.
