Ravens hope Terrell Suggs can return late in season

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs said he only has a "partial" tear of his Achilles' tendon, a detail which he said will help him get back on the field by November at the latest.

That's probably overly optimistic. Players often say they will be back earlier than doctors allow. The Ravens seem to have a more realistic vision.

"The Ravens for now are holding out hope Suggs can recover quickly and perhaps play in a reduced role as a pass rusher late in the season, taking the field only on passing downs," Don Banks of SI.com writes.

Banks also notes that others believe it will be "borderline miraculous" if the Ravens get much of anything from Suggs this year. Perhaps he could return to the field, but would he really be T-Sizzle?

It sounds like the Ravens will consider anything they get out of Suggs this year as a bonus. Their pass rush will depend more on guys like defensive ends Paul Kruger and Pernell McPhee and rookie Courtney Upshaw.
