Redskins' Landry, Rogers can't play because of injuries

Safety LaRon Landry will miss his third consecutive game with a left Achilles' tendon injury, and cornerback Carlos Rogers will sit out with sore hamstrings when the Washington Redskins visit the New York Giants on Sunday.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan ruled out both players Friday.

"Anytime you lose great players, obviously it hurts you," Shanahan said. "You give other people opportunities and see what they can do."

Landry continues to wear a walking boot, but Shanahan said it might come off next week. The Redskins are concerned the tendon might rupture had Landry kept playing.

Shanahan said putting Landry on season-ending injured reserve isn't under consideration at this time.

"If we didn't think he could play, we would IR him, but there's hope," Shanahan said. "That's why he's not IR'd. We'll just kind of wait and see. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later. That's a reason why he's getting treatment."

Rogers missed one game with a sore right hamstring, then hurt the left hamstring when he returned for last Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Running back Ryan Torain is limited in practice with a sore hamstring that has kept him out of three games. Shanahan said Torain's status will be a game-time decision.

"He was limited [Friday]," Shanahan said. "He got some reps in there but still not 100 percent, but (he's) getting better."
