Washington Redskins punter Josh Bidwell said he felt a "twinge" in his right hip on his final punt during warmups for Sunday's game at the St. Louis Rams, *The Washington Post* reports. He was helped off the Edward Jones Dome field by kicker Graham Gano, who became Bidwell's fill-in on punts.
"It's always the last punt," Bidwell said. "I went through a great warmup and then just kind of felt something. You want to be very, very careful with something like that."
A torn labrum in August 2009 sidelined Bidwell for the entire season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery that put him on the injured reserve list. He was released by Tampa Bay in March 2010 and signed by the Redskins as a free agent less than three weeks later.
Because the injury occurred around the time teams had to submit their inactive lists, Bidwell was in uniform. He was the holder on Gano's three field goal attempts and an extra point.
"I'll know a lot more [Monday]," he said. "I just hate to speculate on anything good or bad."
Gano, who had never punted in the NFL but punted at Florida State, had his first attempt blocked by Rams receiver Dominique Curry to give the Rams possession at the Washington 26 in the first quarter. Rams quarterback Sam Bradford threw an interception on the next play to give the ball back.
Gano finished with a 35.3-yard average on four punts, with one inside the 20-yard line.
A team spokesman said they didn't know the extent of Bidwell's injury.
