ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins have signed free agent safety Tanard Jackson, who was released by Tampa Bay earlier this week after failing a physical.
Jackson spent his previous five NFL seasons with the Buccaneers after being selected in the fourth round of the 2007 draft. He has started all 56 regular-season games in which he appeared, making 239 tackles, 10 interceptions, five forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and two touchdowns.
In September 2010, Jackson was suspended for a year for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He was reinstated last October and started 10 games.
Jackson sat out the first four games of the 2009 season while serving a previous suspension for violating the substance abuse policy.
