Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday that Kevin Kolb has a "pretty good chance" to start at quarterback this weekend against the Tennessee Titans.
Kolb made his second consecutive start in place of injured Michael Vick in the Eagles' 31-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
"You're dealing with one of the most competitive guys you're ever going to meet," Reid said of Kolb on Monday. "Does he want to play? Absolutely. Does he want to be a starter? Absolutely. Does he know he can be a starter? Absolutely."
Billick: I'd start Kolb over Vick
NFL Network analyst
Brian Billick says it's the perfect combination for the Eagles to start Kevin Kolb and have Michael Vick
come off the bench.
Vick sustained a rib cartilage injury during a Week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins and hasn't played since. Reid said Vick's health was improving, but he's still stiff and sore around the ribs.
The Eagles have a bye after playing the Titans, so resting Vick at least one more week would give him more time to recover and possibly start Nov. 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Kolb opened the season as the Eagles' No. 1 quarterback, then lost his job to Vick in the first game after he sustained a concussion. Reid handed the job to Vick and insisted it's still belongs to him -- a sticky situation if Kolb continues to thrive.
Kolb completed 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons.
"I just have to approach it like I am the starter," Kolb said Monday, according to the Eagles' official website. "I think if you don't, you're behind the eight ball and you're not totally prepared. Even though you might feel like you are, you're not mentally there. And that's what I've learned, there's a big difference between backing up and preparation for a starter. You have to make sure you prepare like a starter every time."
