LeGarrette Blount suffered a knee injury in practice Friday that will keep him out a few weeks, at least.
The Boston Globe's Shalise Manza Young reports that Blount suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee.
It's unclear the severity of the sprain, but Blount is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, per Young's source.
The running back is suspended for the first game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, stemming from a marijuana incident last year, so he will have an extra week to get healthy, if needed.
The knee injury is a setback for Blount, who, after initially failing his conditioning test, was far and away the Pats' best back during training camp.
Upon his return -- presumably in Week 2 -- he'll likely be the Patriots lead back once again.
In the interim, the injury should give more opportunities for Jonas Gray and Brandon Bolden to convince the coaching staff they can handle a bigger roles. Pass catcher Travaris Cadet, James White and Dion Lewis could also see increased camp and preseason workloads.
