Cam Newton and Leonard Fournette in the same backfield?
Count the Panthers as intrigued by the idea.
Carolina will host Fournette on a pre-draft visit next week, per The Charlotte Observer.
Panthers general manager Dave Gettlemen and head coach Ron Rivera did not attend the LSU pro day on Wednesday, where a slimmer Fournette had an impressive workout, but the club did send its offensive coordinator and running backs coach, among other coaching staff members, to the event.
Fournette, the No. 1-rated RB on NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock's board, has long been mentioned as a good fit for the Panthers -- he's a power back who can take some of the burden off of Newton and pair with Jonathan Stewart to give the club a nice running back tandem. Carolina might not get a chance to pick Fournette, though, unless it trades up.
Each of the most recent NFL.com analyst mock drafts has Fournette coming off the board no lower than No. 6 to the Jets, and four of the five analysts have Fournette going No. 4 overall to the Jaguars. The Panthers hold the No. 8 overall pick in Round 1.
Fournette isn't the only RB who has Carolina's attention. Tennessee's Alvin Kamara, Mayock's No. 4 RB in the draft, will also visit the club, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, and could be available when the Panthers pick in Round 2 (No. 40 overall).
