Already set to face the Denver Broncos without starting safety Ryan Clark and first-string running back Rashard Mendenhall, the Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly got more bad news Friday on the injury front heading into Sunday's AFC Wild Card Game.
Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey will not play against the Broncos because of a left ankle injury, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday. Pouncey also missed the Steelers' loss to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV with a left ankle injury.
The Steelers officially listed Pouncey as questionable on Friday's injury report. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who said he aggravated his high ankle sprain in last week's win over the Cleveland Browns, is listed as probable.
Pouncey missed practice Thursday and was limited Wednesday. He did not seem positive Thursday he could play through the high ankle sprain that sidelined him for two games in December.
Running back Mewelde Moore (sprained left knee) and cornerback Cortez Allen (shoulder) were ruled out. Three other starters -- linebacker James Harrison (toe), defensive end Brett Keisel (right groin) and safety Troy Polamalu (right calf) -- all of whom didn't practice for the second straight day on Thursday, were listed as probable.
Brian Dawkins is out for the Broncos with a neck injury that has sidelined him for the past four games. Fullback Spencer Larsen (knee) is doubtful, while linebacker Von Miller (thumb) is probable, along with wideout Eddie Royal. Defensive back Jonathan Wilhite (illness) and safety David Bruton are questionable.
