Steelers wide receiver Limas Sweed underwent surgery to fix a torn or ruptured Achilles tendon Monday, one day after he suffered the injury during the team's final minicamp practice, the *Pittsburgh Post-Gazette* reported.

The Steelers confirmed to the Post-Gazette that Sweed had surgery Monday, but they didn't disclose specifics. Sweed injured his left Achilles tendon during a routine passing drill Sunday, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlinsaid then that it could be serious.
Sweed was taken off the Steelers' indoor practice field on a cart and later left the team's practice facility on crutches.
It isn't known how long Sweed will be sidelined, but he likely would miss the 2010 season if the Achilles is ruptured.
Sweed has just seven catches in two NFL seasons, and some consider the second-round draft pick to be a major disappointment.
