Alabama's Reuben Foster won the Dick Butkus Award, presented annually to the nation's top linebacker, at the Crimson Tide's football banquet on Sunday night.
The former Chicago Bears great and Hall of Famer was there to present it personally.
Other finalists for the award were Vanderbilt's Zach Cunningham, LSU's Kendell Beckwith, Florida's Jarrad Davis and Iowa's Josey Jewell. Foster is the fourth Alabama player to win the Butkus Award and the third since 2009, joining the late Derrick Thomas (1988), Rolando McClain (2009) and C.J. Mosley (2013). All three of those were first-round draft choices, and Foster has been projected as a first-rounder himself for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Foster led Alabama's prospect-laden defense in tackles this season with 94, including 12 tackles for loss and four sacks. He took to Twitter Sunday night regarding the Butkus Award:
The Butkus Award capped quite a weekend for Foster, who was named MVP of the SEC Championship Game Saturday night after making 11 tackles and two sacks against Florida in a 54-16 win. He then was named Alabama's MVP for the season, by a vote of the players, at the team banquet Sunday.
