The NFL's worst-kept secret finally is out.
Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan officially declared Robert Griffin III his starting quarterback for the "Monday Night Football" opener versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
"He's ready to go. Full speed ahead," Shanahan said. "If we didn't feel that Robert was full-go, he wouldn't be playing in this game. ... He's gotten a lot of great reps in practice, no setbacks, no swelling. I feel very good with where he's at."
While fans around the league have understandably reached a saturation point with RGIII injury updates, that weariness will give way to excitement as the weekend nears.
Now that Week 1 is upon us, no game is generating as much excitement among the Around The League crew as Monday night's showdown. Ever since the NFL schedule was released in April, we've been anticipating the wraps coming off RGIII while Eagles coach Chip Kelly unveils his latest offensive innovations.
