The Seattle Seahawks don't plan to trade Richard Sherman, and the All-Pro cornerback doesn't want to go anywhere.
"I wouldn't want to leave this city and my guys, but I understand it's a business and organizational philosophies change," Sherman told 710 ESPN's Gee Scott in a statement regarding the recent trade rumors.
After scuttle started that the Seahawks received calls regarding Sherman's status -- including from the New England Patriots, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport -- GM John Schneider noted that he takes calls about many players but didn't plan to move his best corner.
Pete Carroll further doused the speculation Wednesday, calling it "banter" and saying, "I don't see anything happening."
We noted yesterday that trading Sherman, who turns 29 years old during the season and is under contract the next two years at a reasonable rate, makes little sense for Seattle.
Sherman's teammates agree.
An unnamed player told Scott, "Unless (the Seahawks) want this run to be over with, you wouldn't entertain the thought of trading Sherman."
To recap: Team brass will listen to trade inquires but doesn't plan to act. The coach doesn't see a Sherman trade happening. Sherman doesn't want out. And his teammates fear the franchise crumbling if one of its most important pieces were jettisoned.
Yay offseason headlines!
