NFL.com's Ian Rapoport said on "Total Access" on Thursday the surgery likely would be Monday, but the exact day was not known yet.

Besides a persistent infection in his thrice-operated forearm, Gronkowski also is suffering from "chronic" back pain, two sources informed of his condition told Rapoport. Gronk recently underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury and will see spine specialist Robert Watkins at some point following Monday's forearm surgery, per Rapoport.

On Saturday, Gronkowski and about 30 current and former New England Patriots players, coaches and cheerleaders participated in a "Football for You" free youth clinic in Newtown, Conn.
