Following his hospitalization for a fall from a broken hotel window and a subsequent charge of marijuana possession, Ole Miss star defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche issued a formal apology Tuesday. In it, the junior also denied a report that he used synthetic marijuana before the fall.
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze has not indicated whether Nkemdiche will be suspended for the Rebels' Sugar Bowl game against Oklahoma State.
Police were called to Atlanta's Grand Hyatt hotel on Saturday night after a 911 call drew their attention to Nkemdiche's fall. He required stitches in the back and leg, and the 911 caller indicated he was incoherent. Nkemdiche was hospitalized in stable condition, and police found seven marijuana cigarettes in the hotel room.
Prior to the incident, an NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Nkemdiche is "strange," and could scare away some NFL teams. He is one of the top defensive tackles in college football and a three-year starter for the Rebels.
