Rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant won't see game action until the Sept. 12 season opener against the Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday.
Bryant, who sustained a high right-ankle sprain on July 30, returned to practice Tuesday. Jones told *The Dallas Morning News* that part of the reason Bryant will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins is that the first-team offense will not play.

"You don't want to have additional risks, if there are any," Jones told the Cowboys' official Web site.
Bryant was projected to be out four to six weeks when he was injured after being tangled with defensive back Orlando Scandrick on the next-to-last play of a training-camp practice. This past weekend marked four weeks, and the season-opening weekend would be six.
"I looked at the big picture ... that's how I was able to keep calm," Bryant said of learning he wouldn't play Thursday. "I understand it 100 percent."
Cowboys receivers coach Ray Sherman said he was impressed with Bryant's performance in practice Tuesday.
"I thought he did some good things," Sherman said. "He went through special teams. He went through drills with me. Then he came out and ran some plays with the offense. I thought he looked very good. He's ready to go."
