Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo was arrested and charged with simple assault under domestic violence, according to the Rutgers University Police Department.
The 2014 All-Big Ten player was indefinitely suspended from the team Sunday for an incident that occurred outside Rutgers' High Point Solutions Stadium Saturday night after the Scarlet Knights lost to Washington State, Rutgers coach Kyle Flood announced on Sunday.
Rutgers University Police Department chief Kenneth Cop confirmed the charge, per the Asbury Park Press. Police say the investigation into the incident allegedly involving Carroo is ongoing. It's the latest in a string of problems for Flood in what has been a trying start to the season. The school is investigating whether Flood made improper contact with a faculty member regarding the academic eligibility of a former player.
That player, cornerback Nadir Barnwell, was one of five Rutgers players dismissed from the program after they were charged with aggravated assault, among other crimes, just before the team's season-opening game against Norfolk State on Sept. 5.
Carroo, a senior, is regarded among the top offensive players in the Big Ten after catching 55 passes for 1,086 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He had caught seven passes for 181 yards and three scores over two games this year prior to his suspension.
