Ryan Broyles cleared to practice by Detroit Lions

As expected, Detroit Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles opened training camp on the "Active/Non-Football Injury" list. Broyles, the NCAA's all-time leader in receptions, had his college career ended with a torn ACL that kept him in rehab mode during the OTAs and minicamp.

Though he's just nine months removed from surgery, the Lions' second-round draft pick felt he was close to being ready to join his new teammates on the practice field. That will happen Sunday, as DetroitLions.com reports that Broyles has been removed from the non-football injury list and is cleared to practice.

The 5-foot-10, 192-pound Broyles is expected to be an immediate contributor in the Lions' offense, working the slot as the No. 3 receiver behind Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson. Though Broyles hasn't handled punt return duties on a regular basis since 2009, he did average over 11 yards per return with a pair of touchdowns in college.

In addition to Broyles, the Lions activated offensive tackle Jonathan Scott from the non-football injury list.
