Ryan Tannehill wants to make 'big jump' for Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill enters a pivotal third season in 2014.

The Miami Dolphins quarterback showed flashes of brilliance his first two seasons but inconsistency has weighed down his overall productivity. The 25-year-old knows it's time to step up his game.

"It's huge. I have to make a big jump, I'm aware of that," Tannehill told ESPN. "I'm putting in the work, putting in the time to get myself physically ready, mentally ready and learn this new offense that we're going with this year. So there is still work to be done.

"But I look for a big jump in myself, both in production and wins. That's what we ultimately play for is wins. So, I'm excited to see what this team does."

Two snarky comments that will inevitably irk someone for no real reason:

1) The word is "leap," Ryan. As in "Making the Leap." It's sort of what we do around here.

2) Ummm ... duh?

Tannehill still has much to improve upon to be mentioned in the same breath as other young quarterbacks like Andrew Luck, Colin Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, Robert Griffin III or Cam Newton.

There are other aspects that the Dolphins must progress in to succeed in 2014 -- like keeping Tannehill upright -- but none is bigger than the quarterback leaping into the next phase of quarterbacking.
