Sean Payton's 2-4 Saints are in need of some motivation, especially now that they're trying to save their season against the Packers in New Orleans this weekend.
In previous seasons, Peyton has laid down mouse traps as a reminder to stay humble. He's also placed gas cans into the lockers of veterans to implore them to find something in the tank.
Katherine Terrell over at The Times-Picayune explains his latest attempt:
The cartoon depicted two men in a tunnel with pickaxes in their hands. One, inches away from finding diamonds, was shown giving up and walking away before striking the prize. Another man was running full speed toward the diamonds. The words "Never Give Up" are at the bottom.
As simple or mundane as some of the tactics may seem, many of Payton's former players and fellow coaches remember these things about him the most.
A win against Green Bay on Sunday would certainly go a long way toward placing the pickaxe cartoon in Payton lore.
