West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White, one of the top 2015 NFL Draft prospects at his position, reminds one NFL scout of Arizona Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald. And if draft projections on White are accurate, he could find himself drafted in the same neighborhood as Fitzgerald, too.
"He's more of a (Larry) Fitzgerald type receiver in that he doesn't have great speed," the scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I never see him beat people deep. But (if) he is even with them he's going to get the ball. Very good player."
It's not the first time the 6-3, 210-pound senior has been compared to Fitzgerald, who starred at Pittsburgh in college. NFL Media analysts have been told the same. Draft projections on White have gone as high as the first round, the same round Arizona saw fit to invest in Fitzgerald in 2004. According to NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt, half a dozen NFL clubs count wide receiver among their primary 2015 draft needs.
Speed might be an issue on White's draft evaluation, but production isn't. He has caught 102 passes this year, fifth-most in the nation, for 1,318 yards (sixth-most) with nine touchdowns, including seven straight 100-yard games to begin the season. Fitzgerald caught 10 fewer passes (92) in his final year of college, but with far more explosiveness (1,672 yards, 22 touchdowns). Two years later, Fitzgerald was already a Pro Bowl receiver at the NFL level.
