Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabaugh may need to have surgery to repair a broken plate in his right thumb.
At this point, Sensabaugh is seeking additional advice on whether he can play without surgery. If that is the case, he could be back in a matter of weeks, according to his agent, Kevin Connor. If Sensabaugh is required to have a procedure, the extent of his absence will be longer. However, the injury is not considered serious, Connor said.
Sensabaugh had a plate implanted after breaking his thumb in college. He cracked the plate Sunday during Dallas' 17-10 loss at Denver.
Sensabaugh played the week after his operation in college, but coach Wade Phillips said Monday that he doesn't expect such a quick turnaround this time. Patrick Watkins replaced him against the Broncos and will remain in the lineup.
Phillips also said running back Marion Barber's injured thigh tightened up during the Denver game, which is why he played less in the second half. Receiver Roy Williams injured three ribs during the game and will be re-evaluated this week.
