Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan admitted what the rest of the football world understood to be true: The team will draft at least one quarterback.
"I think there's no mystery that we're going to be taking a quarterback and maybe two," Khan told The Florida Times-Union this week.
The owner didn't say if one of those quarterbacks would be taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but he acknowledged the tandem of veteran Chad Henne and former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert wasn't getting the job done.
"We have to get better at that (position)," Khan said.
If the Jags do in fact draft multiple signal-callers, it would likely signify the end of Gabbert's time with the club. Earlier this year, the third-year pro optimistically said there was "no question" he would be back in 2014. However, it remains more likely that Jacksonville will bring back a veteran, like Henne, and use two of its 10 draft selections on the quarterback position.
The Jaguars showed moxie and improvement under coach Gus Bradley down the stretch, but the team's owner admitted they won't go far until they fix the quarterback position.
"It's one of the maxims in modern football -- the quarterback is key," Khan said. "You will get no debate on that. It's 53 people on a team, but that one person really, really makes a difference."
