Jimmy Garoppolo was mobbed by reporters on Thursday, but the Patriots backup quarterback still remains a mystery to plenty of defenders around the league.
Even in Pittsburgh, where a handful of Steelers players admit they've never heard of the passer they'll face in Week 1 if Tom Brady's four-game suspension sticks.
Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review noted that Jarvis Jones"had no idea what I was talking about" when the veteran linebacker was asked for thoughts on New England's No. 2.
First-round pass rusher Bud Dupree also drew a blank, acknowledging: "I'm not really familiar with Jimmy Garoppolo."
Reminded by Starkey that Jimmy G was on tap to face Dupree in the opener, the rookie finally came around, saying: "Oh, OK, the quarterback. So we just have to prepare for a different kind of person and watch the little bit of film we do have on him."
The Tribune-Review notes that the only Pittsburgh player to face Garoppolo in college was punter Jordan Berry, who could only watch as the former Eastern Illinois star shredded his Eastern Kentucky squad for 350 yards and three touchdowns in 2013.
"He really tore us apart," Berry said ominously. "Very impressive player. I think he might be a bit of a threat."
