A South Carolina offensive line that is expected to be one of the best in the SEC this year will be without its starting right guard indefinitely after Mike Matulis injured his knee in scrimmage work Saturday.
"Mike Matulis sprained his knee fairly severely," coach Steve Spurrier said, according to gogamecocks.com. "They will wait and check that out and let us know how severe that was."
In two weeks, South Carolina opens the season against Texas A&M, which is rebuilding a porous defense from last year. But if Matulis is unable to play, taking advantage of the Aggies' defensive shortcomings will require a shuffled lineup. According to the report, center Cody Waldrop could be asked to slide into Matulis' guard spot to fill the void, with Clayton Stadnik filling in at center.
Corey Robinson and Brandon Shell figure to be one of the SEC's top tackle tandems in the SEC this year, with Robinson on the left side and Shell on the right. Left guard A.J. Cann is considered one of the league's top offensive linemen, as well.
