Representatives from 31 NFL teams -- including Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin, and New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen -- were present for Houston's pro day on Thursday.
The only team not in attendance was the Tennessee Titans.
A total of 16 prospects worked out outdoors in the team's stadium -- TDECU Stadium. Before the workout, head coach Tom Herman took about 20 minutes provide the scouts with a rundown of all the players. The event was extremely well-organized, and it was easy to see why the program has been so successful under Herman.
Cornerback William Jackson III -- 6-foot-0 1/8, 186 pounds -- stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine with the exception of the 20-yard short shuttle (4.32 seconds) and the three-cone drill (6.86 seconds).
Wide receiver DeMarcus Ayers -- 5-9 3/8, 185 -- ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 and 4.66 seconds. He had a 35-inch vertical jump and 10-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.33 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.0 seconds. Ayers worked out as a slot receiver, and also worked on catching punts. However, it was really windy in the stadium, so it was hard to evaluate Ayers in that respect.
Running back Ken Farrow -- 5-9 1/2, 219 -- ran the 40 in 4.64 and 4.61 seconds. He had a 39-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.14 seconds and the three-cone in 6.95 seconds. He performed 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Farrow really caught the ball well in his positional workout, and might wind up being a low-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Linebacker Elandon Roberts -- 5-11 3/8, 234 -- ran the 40 in 4.63 and 4.6 seconds. He had a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.26 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.23 seconds. Roberts put the bar up 25 times on the bench. Roberts -- who led the nation with 88 solo tackles -- also worked out in defensive back drills and has a chance to be a priority free-agent pickup for a team following the draft.
Rice
While Houston held its pro day in the morning, Rice hosted its later in the day. There were representatives from 25 NFL teams at Rice's pro day, which was held outdoors and run on FieldTurf. A total of six Owls players worked out, and one has a shot to be a rookie free-agent pickup.
Wide receiver Dennis Parks -- 6-1 1/2, 201 -- ran the 40 in 4.62 and 4.59 seconds. He had a 32 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.52 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.44 seconds.
Texas-San Antonio
Representatives from 30 NFL teams -- including Kansas City Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard, Detroit Lions tight ends coach Al Golden and Indianapolis Colts defensive line coach Gary Emanuel -- were present for Texas-San Antonio's pro day on March 22.
Reason so many NFL reps were at UT-San Antonio's pro day was due in large part because Texas' pro day was the next day.
A total of 10 players took part in the workout, which was held outdoors and run on FieldTurf.
Tight end David Morgan -- 6-4 1/8, 265 -- ran the 40 in 4.95 seconds against the wind and 4.83 seconds with the wind. He had a 32-inch vertical jump. Morgan has 10 5/8-inch hands and 33-inch arms. He had a good pro-day workout. Former NFL tight end Ben Hartsock is Morgan's agent.
Defensive tackle Brian Price -- 6-2 3/4, 322 -- ran the 40 in 5.2 seconds against the wind and 5.14 seconds with the wind. He had a 27-inch vertical and 8-foot-7 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.72 seconds and the three-cone drill in 8.22 seconds. He performed 22 reps on the bench press. Price had a good pro-day workout and could be a priority free-agent pickup for an NFL team.
Keep tabs on this football program in the future. The Roadrunners are going to have some prospects to follow in the coming years.
Texas State
Representatives for 28 NFL teams were on hand for Texas State's pro day, which took place in the afternoon after Texas-San Antonio's pro day.
A total of 17 players worked out -- plus two more from the 2014 team -- and the pro day took place outdoors and was run on grass.
Offensive lineman Adrian Bellard -- 6-4 3/4, 301 -- ran the 40 in 5.56 seconds against the wind and 5.41 seconds with the wind. He had a 26-inch vertical and 7-foot-9 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 5.03 seconds and the three-cone in 8.08 seconds. He performed 15 reps on the bench. Bellard has long, 34 5/8-inch arms, which makes him an intriguing rookie free-agent possibility.
Cornerback David Mims -- 5-9 5/8, 184 -- ran the 40 in 4.59 seconds against the wind and 4.5 seconds with the wind. He had a 35 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-3 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.16 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.23 seconds. He performed five reps on the bench press.
Defensive tackle Dondre Elvoid -- 6-1 3/4, 296 -- ran the 40 in 5.46 seconds against the wind and 5.48 seconds with the wind. He had a 25-inch vertical and 8-foot-5 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 5.24 seconds and the three-cone drill in 8.71 seconds. He performed 20 reps on the bench press. Elvoid has 34 1/4-inch long arms and is a free-agent possibility.
Southern Miss
Representatives from 22 NFL teams -- including defensive backs coaches from the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders -- were on hand for Southern Miss' pro day on Thursday. There were 14 Southern Miss players who worked out, plus five more from Alcorn State.
Wide receiver Mike Thomas -- 6-foot-1 1/4, 193 pounds -- ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 and 4.53 seconds. He had a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot-11 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.29 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.06 seconds. He also had 16 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Thomas had a very good positional workout, and likely will be selected in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Defensive back Kalan Reed -- 5-11 1/8, 192 -- ran the 40 in 4.47 and 4.49 seconds. He had a 41 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.19 seconds and the three-cone in 7.05 seconds. He put the bar up 11 times on the bench press. Reed, like Thomas, appears to be worthy of selection in the draft.
Carroll College
Representatives from 18 NFL teams were at the pro day for Carroll College (Mont.) on Monday.
There was one player with a chance to be a rookie free-agent pickup that worked out.
Offensive tackle Joshua James -- 6-5 1/8, 315 -- ran the 40 in 5.34, but hurt his hamstring while running so he was unable to participate in the shuttles. He had a 30 1/2-inch vertical and 9-foot-3 broad jump. James -- who has 33-inch arms -- did 26 reps on the bench press.
