Steve Sarkisian took to Twitter on Wednesday, making his first public statement since being fired as USC head coach on Monday.
He thanked supporters and sent his best wishes to the Trojans, who will visit No. 14 Notre Dame on Saturday, in a series of tweets.
Sarkisian was dismissed on Monday, one day after being placed on a leave of absence. He was placed on leave Sunday after USC AD Pat Haden determined he was "not healthy," and Haden fired Sarkisian the next day after exploring the matter further. Sarkisian was on a plane traveling to an out-of-state treatment facility on Monday when Haden tried, unsuccessfully, to reach him to inform him of his decision. The coach learned of his firing via an email and texts from friends, according to ESPN.
ESPN reported that Haden had implemented a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol use with Sarkisian after the coach's embarrassing behavior at a USC preseason rally. Sarkisian attributed the display to mixing alcohol with medication and denied that he had a drinking problem when he addressed the incident with reporters.
