- The Cleveland Browns are aiming to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2002. They'll have a former Super Bowl Most Valuable to possibly aid the cause. Linebacker Malcolm Smith, the Super Bowl XLVIII MVP with the Seahawks, has been signed by the Browns, the team announced Sunday. Smith played last season with the Cowboys and provides depth for the Browns D.
Cleveland Browns cornerback Kevin Johnson, who was released from the hospital Friday after sustaining a lacerated liver, is going through protocol to rejoin the team on Tuesday, Rapoport reported. Johnson will have a two-week span to ramp up before getting liver scans. There is a chance he could miss only a week or two of the season, Rapoport added. In a corresponding move to Smith's signing, center Casey Dunn was waived/injured.
- New Dallas Cowboys addition Everson Griffen is set for individual drills Sunday at practice, coach Mike McCarthy told the media in a morning press conference. Starting right tackle La'el Collins will be limited in practice, though McCarthy did not specify the tackle's ailments. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis is dealing with an ankle injury and McCarthy does not expect him to practice this week.

- Seattle Seahawks defensive end Branden Jackson was knocked unconscious during the team's practice on Saturday. Though he had movement in all extremities, he was placed on a backboard and transported to a hospital. Defenders.
