NEW ORLEANS -- Another Super Bowl Media Day is in the books. As always, it was a zoo.
Around The League was on the ground at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Some takeaways from this year's event ...
»Alex Smith lost his starting job and he didn't even get a riser. Cold-blooded. We can't imagine how happy he must have been when this thing was over.
» Walking through the crowd, I heard English, Spanish, German and Japanese. Probably missed some, too.
» There was a shockingly large crowd assembled around David Akers.
» The wacky persona rundown: We had a creepy rodeo clown, a 30-year-old man dressed as a boy superhero and Vic "The Brick." There also was a guy from Telemundo dressed as a royal monarch of some kind. Loco.
» The schlub-reporter-to-attractive-women ratio is improving in New Orleans with each day. Katherine Webb was in the building. As was Ines Sainz. This being a Super Bowl event, and not 1969, she knew she was safe from any New York Jets.
» You could have guessed, but Jim Harbaugh wore his standard outfit: Niners hat. Black shirt. Tan khakis. Sneakers. He has the wardrobe variety of a character from "The Simpsons" at this point.
» A reporter from something called the "OMG Insider" was handing players a cardboard cutout shaped as a hashtag. Some players went along with it (Terrell Suggs), but others seemed completely mystified by the exercise (Justin Smith).
» Speaking of Smith, he has a tattoo of the Anheuser Busch logo on his massive left arm. This is a man who has never tasted a wine cooler.
» Former NFL vice president of officiating and current Fox rules guy Mike Pereira was walking around holding a penalty flag. It's unknown why.
» I spent a few moments examining Joe Flacco's hair. It's short, neatly combed, no product. It's remarkable in how unremarkable it is. His dad probably would explain it with a different word.
» We overheard San Francisco 49ers guard Joe Looney get asked -- and I quote -- "Who's your favorite black person?"
Super Bowl Media Day can be strange.
