The defensive coordinators for the St. Louis Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans Saints and three linebackers coaches were among representatives from 29 NFL teams on hand for TCU's pro day last Friday. Fourteen players worked out indoors on FieldTurf.
B.J. Catalon (5-foot-7 3/8, 140 pounds), a running back, ran 4.47 and 4.50 in the 40. He didn't really perform any running back drills, but did look good catching the ball well coming out of the backfield.
Paul Dawson (5-foot-11 7/8, 230 pounds) had a strong showing at his pro day, improving on several of his numbers from the combine. He ran a 4.75 and 4.77 in the 40. He had a 30-inch vertical and 9-foot-4 broad jump. He had a 6.76 3-cone drill. He stood on his bench press from the combine. Dawson had a good workout, showing good quickness and change of direction, and he also weighed in five pounds lighter than his weight from the combine.
Tayo Fabuluje (6-foot-6, 332 pounds) was down about 20 pounds from the combine. He stood on his times, but he had an 8-foot-2 broad jump and threw the bar up 16 times. Everyone was a little disappointed that he didn't run at his lighter weight, but he's a big guy with long arms (33 5/8 inches) and has pretty good movement. He's the kind of player that teams can train and make an offensive tackle out of him.
**Chris Hackett** (6-foot 1/4, 187 pounds), a defensive back, ran the 40 in 4.66 and 4.69. He had a 7.03 3-cone drill and put the bar up 11 times. Hackett had a great workout. You wish he were a little faster, but his strong ball skills make up for the lack of flat-out speed.
Kevin White (5-foot-9 3/8, 182 pounds) ran 4.62 and 4.66 in the 40. He ran a 4.25 in the short shuttle and 6.86 in the 3-cone drill. He did not do the bench press. White's workout was curtailed a bit because he had some tightness in his right hamstring. Like Hackett, White's speed could be better, but he has excellent ball skills to make up for that.
David Porter (5-foot-11 1/2, 205 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.50 and 4.53 seconds. He had a 31-inch vertical and 9-8 broad jump. He ran a 4.20 short shuttle and 6.77 3-cone drill. And he had 13 bench-press reps. Porter had a nice workout and should be a free agent.
Casey Pachall, a former TCU quarterback who went undrafted last year, worked out after the pro day and looked great throwing the ball. Pachall had some off-the-field troubles in college and played in Canada last year, but he's a big, strong quarterback who I'm sure teams will give him another look.
