Teammate: Georgia's Ramik Wilson got 'banged-up in the head'

Georgia senior linebacker Ramik Wilson, who led the SEC in tackles last season, has yet to practice in fall camp, including missing Friday morning's session, and a concussion might be the reason.

The school hasn't officially announced the reason, but Reggie Carter -- currently running with the starting defense while Wilson is out -- told the Athens Banner-Herald that Wilson "got a little banged-up in the head."

Fellow linebacker Amarlo Herrera, who teams with Wilson to give the Bulldogs the best linebacker duo in the SEC, told the Banner-Herald that Wilson is "taking mental reps. Mental reps are just as good as physical reps. You've got to play it mentally before you can play it physically."

Herrera also said he didn't know when Wilson would return to practice.

Wilson (6-foot-2, 237 pounds) led the SEC with 133 tackles in 2013, 20 more than anyone else. He isn't an elite athlete, but he is a tough, physical presence and always seems to be around the ball. Wilson is especially good against the run. He had five games with double-digit tackles in 2013, including an 18-tackle outing in a loss to Auburn. He added four sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Wilson barely played in his first two seasons before emerging as a first-team All-SEC player in 2013.

Losing Wilson at any time during the regular season would be a huge blow to Georgia, whose first two games are against Clemson (Aug. 30) and South Carolina (Sept. 13). His production is tremendous, and losing a first-team All-SEC performer for any amount of time obviously hurts.
