Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater -- in play to be the No. 1 pick in the draft -- has decided not to run at the NFL Scouting Combine, it was announced Sunday morning. He had announced Saturday he was not going to throw, and evidently a decision was made to bypass the running drills overnight.
NFL Network reporter Steve Wyche reported on Sunday morning that Bridgewater would participate in the broad jump.
Bridgewater measured 6-foot-2 and 214 pounds -- 18 more than he weighed at Louisville -- and there was some intrigue as to how he would handle the added weight.
He will participate at Louisville's pro day on March 17.
Bridgewater has been working with former NFL quarterback Chris Weinke at the IMG facility in Bradenton, Fla.
"Teddy loves the game. He's a gym rat," Weinke told USA Today. "He's a No. 1-worthy franchise quarterback."
Weinke has tweaked Bridgewater's mechanics, encouraging him to use his legs more to generate more velocity on his throws. But no one will see that velocity until Louisville's pro day.
One positive aspect of Bridgewater's visit to the combine was his weight. He has been dinged for his lack of bulk.
