The Tennessee Titans made it look easy in Week 1 with a 26-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Our takeaways:
- No team in the NFL had a worse opening week than the Chiefs. Derrick Johnson ruptured his Achilles tendon, and the team's passing game looked just as bad in reality as it does on paper. Defensive lineman Mike DeVito also ruptured his Achilles tendon, the team announced.
- New Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt could not have drawn up this game any better. The Titans held on to the ball for nearly 38 minutes because of a four-pronged running game led by Shonn Greene. The Titans' secondary locked down the Chiefs receivers. It was a convincing win that could have been worse.
- It's not a good sign when Alex Smith scrambling is the best offensive play the Chiefs have. Smith led the Chiefs in rushing, and he wound up getting picked off three times. The most common sight of the day: Smith waiting fruitlessly for receivers to get open and not pulling the trigger. The Chiefs don't have enough weapons.
- The Jake Locker-Whisenhunt marriage is off to a terrific start. Locker mixed in his usual handful of inaccurate throws, but he also got the ball out of his hands quickly all day. He picked up some nice third-and-long plays when he gave his receivers, especially Justin Hunter, a chance to make plays. It was a composed performance.
- Fantasy alert: Bishop Sankey was third in line for carries for Tennessee. Fantasy alert No. 2: The Chiefs did try to get tight end Travis Kelce involved early and often. He'll have better days.
- Underrated storyling here: The revenge of Ryan Succop! The ex-Chiefs kicker had four field goals in his return to Kansas City.
- The Chiefs have a brutal schedule coming up. It would not be a surprise if they are buried in the standings early in the year.
UPDATE: NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Mike DeVito suffered a torn Achilles and is out for the season, along with Derrick Johnson.
