The Buffalo Bills could soon have new ownership.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula has emerged as the clear front-runner to purchase the Bills, according to a source involved in the process.
Monday was the deadline for binding bids, so the agreement could come as soon as Tuesday. The sale is expected to come together "very quickly," and it would be "stunning" if Pegula didn't extend the winning bid, the source told Rapoport.
The league finance committee meeting is next week and a new Bills owner could be in place by the NFL's fall meeting on October 7-8, if all goes well.
The 63-year-old billionaire found success as a natural gas and real estate mogul. He has repeatedly stated his intent to keep the team in Western New York, which makes sense since he would own both of Buffalo's major professional sports franchises.
Founding Bills owner Ralph Wilson died at age 95 in March, leaving operations to team president Russ Brandon.
