Texas A&M safety Armani Watts made a game-ending interception in double-overtime Saturday to complete the Aggies' marathon 45-38 win over Tennessee.
Quarterback Trevor Knight scored on a 1-yard touchdown run on the Aggies' second overtime possession for the winning points in a game that lasted nearly five hours. Texas A&M (6-0) handed the Volunteers their first loss of the season.
For awhile, it looked like Tennessee CB Malik Foreman had sparked the comeback magic that had allowed the Volunteers to enter the game at 5-0. Texas A&M standout freshman Trayveon Williams broke a 72-yard run and was two steps from what would have been a put-away touchdown with 1:49 left in the game, but Foreman forced a fumble from behind just before Williams crossed the goal line, forcing a touchback and giving UT possession for a game-tying drive in the final minute.
Despite the crucial miscue, Williams had his most productive game with 215 yards on 28 carries.
Texas A&M scored the first touchdown of the second half to open a 28-7 lead, but Tennessee's dynamic second-half play this season manifested itself again with enough of a comeback to force overtime.
Tennessee RB Alvin Kamara played his best game in the injury absence of starter Jalen Hurd. Kamara rushed 18 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns, and caught eight passes for another 161 yards and a score. Volunteers QB Josh Dobbs completed 28 of 47 passes for 398 yards, but with two interceptions.
