Texas quarterback David Ash has been cleared to resume offseason training after missing most of the 2013 season because of concussions, the school announced Saturday.
Ash is on pace to be cleared for spring practice, Longhorns head trainer Kenny Boyd said, good news indeed after missing the final nine games following a re-occurrence of concussion symptoms.
In three starts, Ash completed 53 of 87 passes for 760 yards and seven touchdowns against two interceptions, adding 152 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Ash (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) has shown steady improvement since splitting time as a true freshman. Eligible for a medical redshirt, Ash could emerge as a viable draft prospect over the next two seasons under the tutelage of new quarterback coach Shawn Watson. Watson was critical in the development of Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville into one of the top players in college football, and Ash has the raw talent to reach similar heights.
