Offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil might be considered the most likely candidate to go No. 1 overall to the Titans in this year's draft, but Tennessee's evaluation of potential top picks didn't end after Tunsil's pro-day workout Monday.
Titans general manager Jon Robinson, head coach Mike Mularkey and director of college scouting Blake Beddingfield got a good look at Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey on Tuesday as they attended FSU's pro day a day after watching Tunsil work out. They were joined at FSU by defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and scout Tim Ruskell, giving the Titans the largest contingent of any team at the pro day, per NFL Media's Albert Breer. Representatives from 30 NFL teams (all but the Saints and Bengals) attended the pro day, including four GMs (Robinson, the Bucs' Jason Licht, Bills' Doug Whaley and Steelers' Kevin Colbert) and two head coaches (Mularkey and the Steelers' Mike Tomlin), according to Breer.
Four of six NFL Media mock drafts have Tunsil going No. 1 to the Titans, but analysts Charles Davis and Bucky Brooks both have Ramsey going to Tennessee with the top pick.
Ramsey is considered one of the draft's most freakish athletes and NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah has described him as a larger version of Cardinals All-Pro Tyrann Mathieu. He put on an impressive show last month at the NFL Scouting Combine and performed only in position drills at the pro day, standing on his combine testing results. Afterward, he made his case for why the Titans should take him at No. 1.
One of the biggest questions regarding Ramsey has to do with the best position fit for him at the next level. There's been some debate over whether he should be a safety or a cornerback, but Robinson told NFL Network on Monday that he doesn't think that uncertainty is much of an issue.
"To me, I don't think it matters," Robinson said. "I think he can play both spots and he can play them to a high level. He's shown that he's capable of doing that. He, like Laremy and a couple other guys in this draft, they're going to be impact players for whatever team drafts them."
Of course, there's a belief that the option at No. 1 that looks most attractive to Robinson is trading down. He's made it clear that he's open for business, but the cost of a move up makes finding a willing trade partner highly unlikely.
