Titans' Mike Munchak counting on big year for Derrick Morgan

Injuries have slowed Tennessee Titans defensive end Derrick Morgan from performing the way the team thought he would when it drafted him with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

But coach Mike Munchak believes that Morgan is due for a breakthrough season.

Morgan suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee as a rookie and missed all but four games that season. He started 10 games in 2011 but was hindered by a second surgery on his knee and an ankle injury.

“With the lockout and us not being able to see him last year at this time, there was a lot more questions at (the defensive end position) than there are right now for us,” Munchak said, according to The Tennessean. “Last year at this time, we were very unsure of how (Morgan’s) knee was going to be. So he’s very excited he’s going to have an offseason with us this year.”

The Titans' defense struggled to establish a pass rush throughout the season, finishing 31st in the league with just 28 sacks. Kamerion Wimbley, who has played defensive end and outside linebacker, signed with the Titans after being cut by the Oakland Raiders.
