DETROIT LIONS

Demonstrates Excellence on The Field

In standard excellence on the field, Trey Flowers has made three Super Bowl appearances, achieving victory in two of those three. He is also a two-time Super Bowl Champion. Trey made waves during the Falcons - Patriots Super Bowl championship, changing the course of the game in the fourth quarter and leading the team to a 34-28 win. As of this year, he records a total of 232 tackles, 30 sacks, 35 tackles for loss, and 82 QB hits. Trey’s level of maturity and calm spirit when speaking to media after games about his performance on field demonstrates his level of professionalism and respect for the game.

Demonstrates Dedication and Commitment to Community Efforts this Year

Since the beginning of 2020, Trey has participated in a plethora of events both for the Lions organization as well as his foundation, Flowers of the Future. With factors regarding COVID-19, he learned how to pivot as well as shift gears from focusing just on the youth, to focusing on those who were directly affected by the virus. The initiatives he is involved in but are not limited to are, a meal distribution feeding 750 in northern Huntsville, speaking to children and providing 150 meals to students at the Boys and Girls Club, feeding 4,000 frontline workers at Henry Ford Hospital, and providing 7,000 headphone sets to inner city children of Detroit Public City Schools.

Trey’s foundation also awards four scholarships to two Huntsville City School seniors and two to undergraduate students at the local university.

With the Lions, Trey has also participated in the Virtual Voter Education and Registration Town Hall and has served as a moderator in partnership with the Players Coalition and Michigan Voting.

Demonstrates Dedication and Commitment to Community Efforts in Years Past

Over his years as a professional football player, Trey has actively dedicated his time and resources to giving back. His foundation has hosted many events since his time in Detroit including an Inner City Learning Center Community Giveback, where he met with inner-city youth to give words of inspiration. He also donated $15,000 to the learning center to help further develop its mark in the community of Huntsville, Alabama. Trey also hosted “Community Day with Trey” which partnered with a local center to donate 150 backpacks to the local community, as well as providing free haircuts, food, entertainment and an old school vs. new school dance off for attendees.

In Detroit, Trey hosted a “Painting with a Twist” party for women who have been impacted by breast cancer. At this event, Trey listened to the women in attendance share their story of being diagnosed with cancer and how they were able to overcome the adversity that comes with experiencing the disease first-hand. Trey’s sister, Jazz Maclin, was diagnosed with cancer at age 21. Jazz also shared her personal story, which Trey says was his driving force to host the event. The event also included raffle giveaways for attendees, including a spa day and manicure.

Trey has also participated in the Methodist Children’s Home Society Giveback, where he spent an evening hanging out with the foster children of MCHS and had a pizza party with 75 children and 25 adults.

Demonstrates Consistency in Positive Character and Models a Lifestyle of Giving Back

Trey’s consistency and positive character did not just begin at the professional level. Stemming back to college and high school, he would spend his off season working with his dad and volunteering his time with his family business. Trey would give local donations to businesses and nonprofits in need, as well as spending his time volunteering at local events. Some of those events include being involved in a church building development and participating in local speaking engagements in the community. When Trey recognized that he was able to do more financially, on a larger scale, he started giving back on a grander spectrum just three months after signing his second contract. The Detroit Lions are proud to nominate Trey Flowers as their Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
